UK Games Expo 2016 Announced

UK Games Expo 2016 Announced

This year we’ve been given the opportunity to attend the UK Games Expo 2016 in Birmingham, and we’re very excited.

Fifteen years in to the twenty first century, with computer and console games massively popular, one could be forgiven for believing that tabletop games have gone the way of the dodo. If you were to make that assumption you would be very wrong. Boardgames, card games, wargames and roleplaying games are not only surviving, they are thriving. Indeed this could well be the Golden Age of Tabletop Games.

Games are increasing in quality, and board game cafés are thriving, with new ones opening up all the time, (remember when we visited Dice & Donuts recently in Preston?).

The UK Games Expo is the UK’s largest hobby games convention, launched in 2007 and approaching it’s tenth event, attendance has sky rocketed from 800 to over 7000 in that time. Organisers are expecting 8000 to 10,000 individuals in attendance over the 2016 event.

Being hosted in the NEC Hall 1 of the NEC Hilton Hotel, the UK Games Expo 2016 will be featuring a huge number of trade stands, where you can try out and purchase games, game Tournaments and Championships, new game releases, seminars and talks, and even space for role playing games.

The exhibitor list is looking pretty amazing, with stands from Asmodee (Werewolves of Millers Hollow), Fantasy Flight Games, Mayfair Games (Saboteur), Queen Games (Escape Zombie City), Hawk Wargames, Mage Company and Coiledspring Games, plus many more, including my good friends from Esdevium Games who I work with to review many games!

There will also be plenty of cosplay on the main stage, and the show “The Dark Room 2.0” will be shown, and an area for people to bring games to playtest!

The seminar schedule is currently in development, but we’re excited to possibly attend some of these, and there’s also Wyvern’s Lair, the game designer’s answer to the Dragon’s Den.

You can purchase tickets for the UK Games Expo 2016 here, and event tickets will be on sale soon.
